I stayed up til sometime after 5 AM on Monday morning to watch a football game. That threw my entire sleep schedule out of whack so I ended up waking up at 1 AM this morning and my mind would not stop wandering. As it happens to the greatest minds, I came up with a brilliant idea at around 3 AM.
You know that cute little story I’ve been working on about A Dog and His Boy? Well, I thought, what if I turn that into a kids book with illustrations and sell it on Amazon or whatever? I’d be rich!
Okay, maybe not rich, but I have to think it would sell a copy or two.
Anyway, as I have zero talent at drawing I considered using AI to do that for me. I logged into my Canva account and got to work on making some magic!
A boy asking his parents for a puppy I typed when asked for a prompt.
Uhhh…
Okay, that’s clearly not gonna work. Maybe if I concentrate on the puppy and his mama part of the story.
Wait, what if I change the type of image?
Holy crapballs, not only not better, but arguable racist.
I was about to give up but I thought, well, AI cannot possibly screw up “a boy meets his puppy” right?
Whew! Maybe there’s hope. My personal favorite is the little Asian boy with the pupperoni.
So, I think it’s safe to say that AI is not the way to go for my book illustrations. Fortunately, I know an artist. I’ll ask him. Worst he can say is no. He certainly cannot create the nightmares of AI.
