Uncle Rudy’s Adventures in Paris?

It’s still a working title.

I wrote a kid’s book last month about the Mexica god Nanahuatzin who would go on to become the Fifth Sun. I wanted to create a series of books for kids that tell the story of the old gods of the Mexica – my ancestors. I wanted to tell the stories I was never told.

The second book in the series is written. But, like the first, I have to create the imagery utilizing AI.

Booo, hissss

I know. I get it. But I don’t care. I don’t have a budget to hire an artist. It’s a goal to get to a place where I can, but for now I have to use my words to help my computer create the images in my head.

Then I woke this morning and checked on my book sales (modest to say the least) and remembered I have also created a couple of coloring books. With those I use my own photos and tweak them into line art et voila, coloring book.

Stay with me, I promise I have a point.

I have been teaching myself ComfyUI (it’s an image AI program) so I can get better at creating images for my book series. It’s more detailed and demanding than say Canva or ChatGPT so if I can master it I can get better images. At least, that’s my working theory.

So as I was putzing with ComfyUI I used a photo I took and thought, “I can use my own images for a kids book series about Paris!” Why not? I already use them for coloring books. So why not tell stories of adventure with this gorgeous city as the backdrop? Most kids will never get to visit this magical city so, maybe I can give them a little bit of what it has given to me.
